Special VolcanoScapes Event: Introducing VolcanoScapes...Kilauea in High DefinitionSaturday, June 14th, 3:00pmOn Saturday, June 14th, Basically Books will be hosting a special showing of the latest exciting VolcanoScapes DVD from Tropical Visions— VolcanoScapes...Kilauea in High Definition! This new cinemagraphic venture, which documents the activity of Kilauea volcano on the Big Island, features amazingly realistic high-definition images—it's almost like being right by the volcano! You can practically feel the heat from the red hot spatter cones at the Pu‘u ‘O‘o Vent, and smell the steam as the fiery flows enter the cool waters of the Pacific Ocean.
We will be watching the video on a high-definition 32–inch screen brought in specially for the event. We will also be joined in the store by several of the talented people involved in the creation of VolcanoScapes...Kilauea in High Definition. Emmy award–winning Mike Kalber is the "Volcanographer" behind Volcanoscapes—during the past four years he shot all of the footage of Kilauea seen in the video. Mike's history with volcanoes goes back much further than this documentary—he has been filming Kilauea for nearly 25 years! Mark Richford is the High-Definition Editor who edited the footage and selected all the music for the video. Ann Kalber is the Graphic Artist who designed and took photographs for the disc and case. They will give a short talk about the process of making a VolcanoScapes documentary, and what it's like to get so close to Madame Pele.
