Joseph Kahoʻoluhi Nāwahī was a Hawaiian patriot, leader, legislator, lawyer, newspaper publisher, and painter. Nāwahī dedicated himself to the political fight for his Queen and his country, the Hawaiian Kingdom. This story is based on a letter written by Joseph Nāwahī to his friend, John Sheldon, telling of his amazing journey to take his seat as a two-term legislator from the Puna district of Hawaiʻi. The letter was printed in the Hawaiian language newspaper Hawaiʻi Holomua on December 31, 1892.
